Antique Limestone Staddle Stone
This is an antique limestone staddle stone from Gloucestershire, with a very good color and weathered patination, the round top is separate from the tapered square base. English staddle stones were originally used as supporting bases for granaries, hay ricks, beehives and game larders. Elevating the grain, or other edible, provided air circulation and discouraged animals from getting into the structure. Imported from England.
