Here is a pair of composite staddle stones, each weathered uniquely. In England, staddle stones were used as supporting bases for granaries, hay ricks, beehives and game larders. Elevating the grain or other edible provided air circulation and discouraged mice. In addition to their original function they are striking as ornament in the garden or yard.
