Austrian Garden Wool
From the manufacturer: “GardenWool® is the optimal winter protection. Sheep’s wool naturally contains optimal insulating properties, as it already grows on the back of the sheep as protection against the cold. The fleece is breathable thanks to the crimped wool fiber. Sheep wool fleece will not only protect against frost and cold but will also keep wild animals from eating the small buds and shoots as well as the bark.
Hardy plants need water even in winter. When the soil is frozen, however, the plant can not absorb water through the roots. In addition, it loses fluid through the sun’s rays over the leaves. It is difficult for the plant to compensate for this fluid loss, and it risks becoming dry. The wool mats can help here. Even if the wool gets wet, it retains the anti-chilling properties, as it can absorb 33% of its weight in moisture, without sacrificing stability and insulation. But it also gives off the moisture slowly again. This has a positive effect on their plants in winter.
Protect your young trees and shrubs from game bites. Especially in the winter months, wild animals such as deer and hares penetrate our gardens when in search for food. A special treat are the buds and bark of young trees, because they are still juicy and tender despite the cold season. The grazing can severely damage the young trees and shrubs. Simply wrap the young plants with winter protection mat. ”
We are not sure this wool wrap will significantly improve the winter hardiness of shrubs or trees in pots over the winter. But we can assure you that it is a beautiful and cozy look for your winter pots.
