We have steel topiary forms in a variety of shapes.  These forms have had grapevine added to them.  If the gardener on your list admires anything formal or topiary-like in the garden, these forms could be a hit. The four prongs at the bottom make them easy to insert in the soil, or in a container.  They would be good looking planted with a small growing vine, or lit to brighten an otherwise dark corner.
