Deborah Silver is a landscape and garden designer whose design/build firm, Deborah Silver & Co, opened its doors in 1986. Her landscape and garden design projects combine a thorough knowledge of horticulture with an artists’ eye for composition and design. Her distinctive and meticulously installed projects are as much about sculpture and the human hand as they are about a great respect for the natural world. Her projects are diverse, and speak to a traditional as well as a contemporary vocabulary. She has made a specialty of providing structure to the landscape that provides beauty in all four seasons of the year. Gardens, both in ground and in containers, add a very personal and emotionally charged element to the landscape proper. A selection of her projects can be viewed at www.deborahsilver.com.
In 1992, landscape architect Rob Yedinak came on board the design/build firm, and in 1996, the two of them joined forces to found Detroit Garden Works. The Works is a shop devoted to fine and unusual garden pots, garden ornament, site furnishings, fountains, sculptures, tools and plants, and whatever else Rob sees fit to carry. In his role as buyer, Rob travels extensively, shopping both in the US and abroad. His carefully curated mix of unique, often handmade, antique, vintage, and contemporary garden objects is constantly evolving, such that no two visits to our store or website are the same. His Instagram page sports a considerable following. While enjoying an enthusiastic local clientele, the nationally recognized Detroit Garden Works is able to reach and serve gardeners across the globe via on line shopping and shipping of purchases great and small, worldwide. Detroit Garden Works is “the brainchild of…Deborah Silver, who grafts fine art and style onto the world of Horticulture.” -2018 spring edition of Midwest Living Magazine
Deborah founded The Branch Studio in 2004. This manufacturing company fabricates steel garden containers, fountains, site furnishings, pergolas and sculpture, primarily of her own design. The studio also fabricates custom work to order for both design professionals and private clients alike. Each piece, created by hand, and one at a time, is of heirloom quality. They can be seen in person at Detroit Garden Works, or viewed at the online version of the shop. The Branch Studio serves its nationwide customer base by shipping its planter boxes, pots, pergolas, fountains and garden ornament of all kinds all over the country.
Dating back to 2009, Deborah’s landscape and garden design blog, Dirt Simple, is a journal style chronicle of the relationship between these three companies that provides a comprehensive range of services to clients. It is widely read both in the US and abroad.
