Antique Sandstone Staddle Stone
Antique sandstone staddle stone. Staddle stones were used as supporting bases for lifting structures like granaries and beehives off the ground. Staddle is derived from the Old English word “stathol” which means base. Elevating the grain or other edible provided air circulation and discouraged small animals from getting in. In the United States, Staddle Stones were historically used as property boundary markers, and make a statement in a garden as ornament. Made of carved stone and imported from England.
